This kinda upset me.

Post by _brody_in_ga » Wed May 24, 2006 2:59 pm

Recently on the James White call in program, Gene Cook whom Steve debated some time ago made the following statements about Steve that just demonstrate how silly he is.

"Steve Gregg is a smooth talker" "As far as twisting scripture around, Steve has the greatest imagination ever"

He then went on to misquote Steve in an attempt to make himelf look smarter and more biblicly sound. I am thinking about calling his program and call him out on these topics. The truth is, anyone that listens to that debate knows who used the scriptures in context and used basic logic.

I really enjoy listening to James White even though he is a Calvinist, and find it odd that he would let someone like Gene Cook participate on his program. BTW, the caller he is refering to that mentioned Steve is me.

Anyone here ever heard of Gene?

I've heard debate announcements on TWeb that mention Gene's name occasionally.

I listened to Gene Cook's radio program "The Atheist Hour" many, many times. My impression of him is that he doesn't know very much and seems very arrogant. As my father used to say, "He knows just enough to get himself in trouble." Gene knows Calvinist theology but he constantly debates atheists who are not impressed (nor am I) with his arguments. If he exhibited a more humble attitude I could appreciate him more but he argues like many unbelievers I know in that he uses emotion rather than solid logic.

I haven't heard his debate with Steve because I don't feel like paying to listen to it. Is it posted for free somewhere?

You hit the nail on the head. I have listened to most of his debates. He gets creamed ever debate. He reminds me of a kid I used to know in grade school who would pick fights and get beat up, then turn around and say "I won that fight!!"

brody,

I have been pining for a debate between Steve and James R. White. I will pay money to experience it. I think they are the two most articulate defenders of their respective positions in our country.

George Bryson tried to get after White on The Bible Answer Man, but I don't think he did much damage to Calvinism.

The first few times I listened to "The Atheist Hour" I had no idea Gene Cook was a Calvinist. But it would frustrate me at how poorly thought out his arguments were and when he finally mentioned being "reformed" then I understood. He can't use the best arguments for Christianity because they're not consistent with his theology. He may be a good man but I don't think he's qualified for public debate. For example, he was debating a rather green (in my opinion) atheist on his show once and the guy asked Gene why he trusts what the bible teaches. Gene's response was, "Because it's the word of God." *scratches head*

I was going to send James White some of Steves stuff. James is a very smart man who defends Calvinism well, but Steve would dominate in my opinion. Not that academic domination is important, but it would be great for those struggling with the issue.

Gene makes statements all the time that amaze me. Also notice how he resorts to ad-hominem arguments when he gets cornered. Poor guy. It must be a lonely life when you seek arguments all the time and get spanked everytime.
