Extrabiblical revelations

Post by _john b » Tue Jan 17, 2006 2:15 pm

I know when I read the Bible I sometimes get the "aahhh" experience when something connects or makes sense to me that I didnt notice before, giving me a revelation from His word.

I have a brother in Christ who gets his "revelations" from his experiences. His claim is that since there is more truth out there than just the Bible then God must have much more to say to us. Hence, the experiences become the primary source for truth.

I realize God has different relationships with His followers, and speaks in differing ways, so how are we to handle extrabiblical revelations?

lotta luv

I believe Jesus is the final Word of God

Hebrews 1:1-2a
In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son

Therefore, any new 'revelations' cannot contradict anything Jesus or Jesus' divinely appointed Apostles said. If it does contradict, it is not true. If it doesn't clearly contradict, it may be true. But if it's extra-biblical, it can hardly be considered essential.

That being said, God is still speaking to His people today. We just have to recognize that He's not saying anything contradictory to His final Word: Jesus. And we must recognize that no 'new' revelation should add to or subtract from what is required for salvation

Thank you mattrose,

I completely agree with you. I think this is point where my brother in Christ mix's things up alittle bit, considering his experiences to be essential.

Thanx for your insite. I also really enjoyed your essay on ; The Binding of Satan. Great job
