Perhaps both, as an individual descriptor and as a general doctrinal statement.
Goliath was "x" feet tall and called a giant, therefore others that are "x" feet tall or taller may also be called giants.
Seems logical to me.
Personally I think these days there are spiritual "Goliath's" to be overcome that are more potent and deadly than the OT physical version.
Yet... just because I haven't seen any contemporary Nephilim (in the flesh) doesn't mean there aren't any.
Either way, warfare is here and the battles are joined.
That is why we should pray for one another.

What would you do if you came across what you thought was a Nephilim?

Please check out this thread as it correlates with immediacy what we have been discussing.

To answer your question... I would pray, assuming there are Nephilim on the earth today.
The question might be, where would I get such a thought? Would it be revelation from the Holy Spirit? A false accusation from the Devil? My own FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt)?
I would first ask the Lord for clarification on whether what I was thinking was indeed true. Then I might ask if there were any further prayers that needed to be prayed.
Then I would continue to go about our Father's business.
P.S. Regardless whether there is a line of distinction between demons (angel/human hybrid spirits) and fallen angels, or if they are one and the same with no human connection, an evil spirit is an evil spirit, be it angelic or even human (the heart of man is deceitfully wicked...).
Evil spirits need to be dealt with according to Scripture (i.e. driven out, resisted, overcome by the word of our testimony and the blood of the Lamb).
Humans need to be born again.

Re: The Book of Enoch in the ancient LXX and Qumran Tanakh
This discussion raises many questions in my mind. I am not clear as to how these hybrids are being viewed. Presumably, they would be part human and part demon (?).Evil spirits need to be dealt with according to Scripture (i.e. driven out, resisted, overcome by the word of our testimony and the blood of the Lamb).
Humans need to be born again.
Does the statement quoted above mean that the demon part of them could be driven out (as with any other exorcism), and that the human part could be born again? If this is so, are we really talking about creatures who are only half human, or are we talking about fully-human beings, who just have a nasty spirit that needs to be exorcized? If the latter, how does one of these nephilim differ, in nature, from an ordinary person who has come to be demonized?

My work week is about to start. I'll give these questions some thought over the next four days.
I'm not totally sure, but I think I have picked up from your radio show that you hold the Sethite view of the Sons of God from Genesis 6. I will be happy to be corrected if I am wrong on that point.
Right now I think the Angel/Human interpretation has more traction as I read the Word, yet I am willing to be proven wrong.

I do tend toward the Sethite view of the sons of God. I am also willing to be proven wrong, since I do not know of any practical issue that is at stake in this matter. I don't think there are any hybrid nephilim on the earth now, in any case. If the angels did once co-habitate with human women, my guess would be it was a unique event, never to be repeated. If Jude 6 and 2 Peter 2:4 are talking about this event, as many believe, then it would seem that the offenders were rounded up and incarcerated. I doubt if any other angels would be unwise enough to imitate the same mistake in the future, having seen such an outcome. Hopefully they are not as dull-witted as are humans.
My questions (above) are merely an attempted to wrap my mind around what it is that the "Sons-of-God-Are-Angels" camp thinks on these points.

Though I tend toward the fallen angelic view of the sons of God (Angels are called "the sons of God" in several other contexts in the OT), I also doubt that there are any nephilim on earth today. To the best of my knowledge there is no evidence that this angelic-human copulation continued after the days of Noah.
