Rational Choice
Re: Rational Choice
It's not a test, Allyn. It's more like a survey.

Man judges a person by his past deeds, and administers penalties for his wrongdoing. God judges a person by his present character, and disciplines him that he may become righteous.

Re: Rational Choice
I just feel too uncomfortable being in a position where my free choice is not free after all but pre-determined. I'm ok with situations where I was in the right place at the right time but when it comes to a choice I personally am able to make then I want to be responsible for it rather than mindlessly going through life where my emotions have no significant bering on the outcome.Michelle wrote:Would you say that it's irrational to take 'em?Allyn wrote:I don't take tests like that
Re: Rational Choice
You did not give what my objective or "motivation" is. I guess you assume most people would want as much money as possible and therefore would chose box A only in order to get the most money. But you did not say that was all that was in the boxes and therefore if my objective has nothing to do with the amount of money but more of a curriosity as to what else might be in the boxes, then one would chose both. So I guess it depends on my motivation, right?

Box A only 4
Both Boxes 3
I chose A because I would get at least $100 or at most $10000. To choose B would mean I could get no more or less than $200. It appears to me that I risk losing $100 vs. gaining $9800.

Thank you, Homer. And thanks to everyone else who has made your "rational choice."

People aren't clamouring to make their rational choice; nevertheless I am very grateful for those who have done so ---- and I do notice, consistent with the wider study, that numerically the two choices are pretty well neck to neck.
