What better way to be a counterfeit than to be almost, but not quite, the same as the real thing?

I would add to your list that the leader often has what he says are special revelations from God which are contradictory to scripture.

Allyn, I'm pretty sure it's the other way around and the official church has reformed and is now considered within orthodoxy, although a large number left the church to start groups that stayed with the old teachings. I remember watching a video about it a year and a half ago that Mort Coyle told us about here
