Paul Washer

Post by _Murf » Sun Jul 29, 2007 2:08 pm

I found several of his sermons on Sermon Index. What I like about what I have heard so far is his stance on how real Christianity requires obedience to Christ, not just a sinner’s prayer. At the same time he doesn’t get legalistic on how to live, at least so far. Anyone have any experience with him?

indeed i have- the sermon he preached to the southern baptist convention youth got him in all sorts of trouble. he was never asked back. my kind of preacher!

he preaches against easy believism-- one of his sermons, i believe is called "examine yourself" based on 1 John- it is excellent.

i really like his heart and his style.

Is there a copy of that around somewhere in MP3 format? Sounds like something I'd like to hear.

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure that he's a Calvinist. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Is that bad? LOL Just listened to Steve's two lessons on Romans 9 and about to start the Calvinism series. Thought it would be a great fit in my current topic of interest, Open Theism.

No. Not at all! Just interesting that's all. I guess from listening to Gene Cook and guys like that, it's a little wierd to hear a Calvinist preach a hard core holiness message. I mean, Leonard Ravinhill could have preached this! For some reason, the two don't really go together in my mind. When I think "holiness preaching" I think "Ravenhill", or "Wilkersen". When I think "Calvinist" I think "John Frame", "Greg Bahnsen" etc. Not that those guys don't believe in holiness or anything. It just seams like most holiness guys are Arminian. Go figure!

God bless,

I listened to it. Thought it was spot-on. Makes me wonder what reason they gave for not having him back...or if this was just a one-time gig in the first place. Lots of people only speak at these kinds of things once.
