Is there a scriptural case against marijuana use?
GLow, Their are some things in life that we know to be wrong. I may not be able to argue that point with scripture after scripture, but none the less I know it to be wrong. I know the consquences of certain actions. The bible says if we know it to be wrong then do it, it is a sin. Based on that it could be said that their is a scriptual bases for not using MJ.
That is where one differs in opinion, when one says it ok for medical purposes and another says it is still a drug and is harmful if prolonged use continues.[/img]

everyone:
I hope no one here thinks I am advocating its use for anything. I am just
adding my thoughts on it and my experiences and debates I have heard from other Christians. So please forgive me if anyone here now thinks it is "ok" by what I have said.
Thanks Glow

I do want to say to you, I agree if we are listening to our spirit, we know inside what is wrong for us. Even when we try to ignore it, the Holy Spirit is faithful and will not give up on us to bring us back to Him . Thanks for your input. In His love Glow

Interesting question! I guess many people would say that the marijuana plant may have been in the garden but it didn't have it's psycho-active (if that's a word) properties, these would have only appeared as a result of the fall. This of course is to suggest that the psycho-active properties of marijuana are inherantly evil (a premise which I'm unconvinced by).
A related/ parallel question would be: will there be marijuna be in the New Earth, and will it still have it's 'properties'?
hmmm....

The Creation
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day. Genesis 1
What reason is there to exclude marijuana from this?

Because God didn't want any pot heads sitting around all day with that far away look when they should have been tending the garden.
I couldn't resist.
Actually, loco weed has very little trouble growing volunteer. It is like all weeds, it grows with no need of cultivation. When Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden and Adam would have to work by the sweat of his brow, the weeds were the first to get in the way.
“ Cursed is the ground for your sake;
In toil you shall eat of it
All the days of your life.
18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
And you shall eat the herb of the field.
19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.”
To a cattle man in Nebraska, mary jane is an enemy. It grows all over tarnation and cattle are ill affected by it when they chew on it.
Believe me, its a weed.

I used to be addicted to Marijuana for a number of years and at one time thought it brought me closer to God. I thought it was ok as long as I kept it under control. Not until I sobered up did I realize how much it affected my life, my thinking and my relationship with my family and the Lord.
I also didn’t realize how much of a hold it had over me. The thing was, I never was able to control it- it went from a thing to help with stress and sleep, to something I did at the end of the day, then something in the middle of the day, until eventually I was could not even start my day without it. Early on in my relationship with Jesus he began to convict me of this sin and I started to feel guilty, until I eventually gave it up entirely.
It didn’t take me long to realize how the Devil deceived me through being high. My spirit was weak and my mind cloudy. I had a couple of relapses when it really became clear how easy it was for the enemy to enter when I went from a clear mind to stoned. All sorts of feelings of doubt and second guessing began to flood my heart when I would get high.
Now with that being said, I do think it can be medicinally used by some people without the type of effects it had over me. I can take prescription pain meds for dental surgery and not feel the need to take them. Some people I know become addicted to them and need more. Same thing with drinking, I can enjoy a good beer or a nice glass of wine without the need to become buzzed or tipsy or feel the need to drink the next day or even for months, in fact I really don’t care for alcohol. Some cannot do that. Addiction is a very individual thing and I think Satan will use anything he can, to enter into your life and control you.
I am a naturalist when it comes to medicine. I don’t take aspirin, antibiotics or anything chemically or man made unless it is absolutely necessary. So I am inclined to point to alternatives that can substitute anything man made with something God gave us to use. Most chemicals have a prolonged and negative health effect on the body. In the case of people with chronic pain and degenerative diseases, pain meds and other drugs can end up doing more damage than good. I also have a problem with the sheer amount of Money now involved in medicine and what truly drives these drug companies. They are less concerned with health and disease prevention and more concerned with a bottom line profit.
So if Marijuana, in its natural state can help someone overcome issues with less to no side effects and without the problems of addiction it should be a legal option, in my opinion. I also don’t think its a sin when used in this manner.

Marijuana may have been in Eden, but I doubt very seriously if Adam and Eve used it for getting high. Maybe after the fall?
I too many years ago smoked MJ, but I also did many ofther things that harmed my body. I know why I used it, what it did to me and the consequences of it. Now that I have been made a new creation and that Frank is dead. I no longer desire nor need it, even if a doctor told me to use it to releave my pain from cancer, by the way which I have and am being treated for.
It never fails when some one wants to justify the use of something in ones life how they are quick to point out that it was used in the bible or Jesus drank so it must be allright.
I am not saying that is the case here, but I have ministerd to drug addicts and alcholics most of my life and that is usually their justification.
