It's strange, but the first two seem to apply to Christianity itself! That is when we consider our single, supreme leader to be Jesus Christ ---- except that Jesus doesn't control his disciples; but rather invites their submission.

What better way to be a counterfeit than to be almost, but not quite, the same as the real thing?

I would add to your list that the leader often has what he says are special revelations from God which are contradictory to scripture.

One correction. There is still the official World-Wide Church of God that remains the same before their founder died but many left the church and began the reformed portion.

Allyn, I'm pretty sure it's the other way around and the official church has reformed and is now considered within orthodoxy, although a large number left the church to start groups that stayed with the old teachings. I remember watching a video about it a year and a half ago that Mort Coyle told us about here
