Dr. Stanley Horton - Pentecostal Theologian

Post by RickC » Tue Jun 22, 2010 3:13 pm

Greetings :)

I recently found these videos of Stanley Horton. For those of you who don't know, he's one of the foremost Pentecostal theologians and Pentecostal historians alive today. I had him as a prof at Central Bible College (AG) in Springfield, MO. Unfortunately, I didn't have him for any biblical courses (just Biology). He had just written his famous book on the Holy Spirit but I just couldn't quite get him into my schedule <sigh>

He was just about the last person I talked to before I left college and the AG. I had become amillennial while there and thus, could not go into AG ministry. I got counseling from "Brother Horton" (we called profs Bro & Sis back in the day) about this. Looking back, I could have asked for advice on where else I might go, but what's done is done....

Actually though, when I was explaining to him why I had become amillennial (from how I saw the scriptures), well, you know? He's such a humble and soft-spoken man. Is now, was back then. It was hard to disagree with him, he's so likeable!!!

In any event, students of the Pentecostal and/or charismatic movement(s) should find Brother Horton's interview interesting, and a blessing too. He's funny.

I should have some excerpts from another Dr. H. interview soon!
God bless you! :)

P.S. If you get a chance to listen & like it, please bump the thread.

Last Friday I found another talk with Brother Horton. He was the featured person on the AGTS (Assemblies of God Theological Seminary) "Legacy Series." The discussion was about and with him, his life and Pentecostal theology.

Link to two one hour sessions -
AGTS Legacy Chapels - with Stanley Horton

Among other things, I learned Bro Horton is on Facebook. I joined FB just to get back in touch with him (he's listed as Stanley Monroe Horton).

Also, Bro Horton gave personal-life testimonies about speaking in tongues (of the different types), mentioning that his grandmother was doing it in the 1880s - and I didn't realize speaking in tongues was documented back that far (in 'more modern' times).

Otherwise, there's such a WEALTH of experience and insight coming from Brother Horton. Once again, I highly recommend watching the vids and listening to the AGTS talks.

If you've watched or listened, please feel free to discuss (here).
Thanks and God bless you! :)
