Temple Post-70AD

Post by darinhouston » Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:15 pm

What happened to the temple after the war in 70AD? I read that the Babylonians destroyed it in sixth century, but I thought it had been destroyed since 70AD. Was it rebuilt?

The Babylonians destroyed the temple in the sixth century BCE. This was Solomon's temple, the so-called "First Temple."

I knew about that one. I assume there wasn't another one after 70AD ?

Hi Darin, I'm not aware of a temple being built after 70AD. Is it possible that the place you read about this mistakenly referred to it as 6th century CE instead of 6th century BCE?

No only the outside wall remained and still remains to this day , it's known as the wailing wall. There was another temple of sorts built there, the Dome of the Rock where they believe Muhammed ascended into heaven.

Correct me if I'm wrong Steve, but it's my understanding that the Wailing Wall is not the temple itself but rather part of a retaining wall that was built to support the area of land the temple was built on.
