I have been studying theology with some men from church using Grudem's Systematic Theology.
This week's topic is the Trinity.
And I got to wondering about non-Trinitarians (at least non-orthodox)- Oneness Pentecostals, JWs and Mormons.
If we exclude them from being saved based on their view of the Trinity, doesn't that elevate the Trinity to a "must believe" doctrine.
If the traditional view of the Trinity is not essential for salvation, then are they saved?
Are ancient Arians or Socinians saved? Will Arius be in heaven?
I was thinking that no gospel plans or tracts I know of address the Trinity.
Why couldn't JWs and Mormons use the 4 Spiritual Laws or the Romans Road.
If it's not in our gospel presentation, why exclude these folks?

I think we often make the mistake of associating 'salvation' with a mental adherence to a certain set of propositions. Jesus, however, seemed much more eager to have people follow him than agree with a handful of creedal points.
In other words, the 'salvation' of the JW, or LDS member, or Oneness Pentecostal is more a question of whether they are following Jesus in their heart and in truth. This is the same standard for JW's, LDS, OP's, Baptists, Wesleyans, Anglicans, Muslim's, Catholics, Hindu's, etc. There is no 'denomination' or even 'religion' that is "IN" when it comes to salvation. Jesus' disciples are "IN" notwithstanding their levels of ignorance.
In other words, the 'salvation' of the JW, or LDS member, or Oneness Pentecostal is more a question of whether they are following Jesus in their heart and in truth. I think if Jesus really is your Lord you are saved yet i do wonder if you don't see Jesus as diety could his blood actually be a propitiation for your sins?
Possibly yes because his diety does not depend on how you view his diety but on the fact he is diety, but i still have to admit i'm not certain.

So it seems to me there are a few facts that must be believed in order to be saved, without which we can not say anyone can be saved at all today:
1. Jesus is the Christ, God's Son
2. Jesus is Lord
3. God raised Him from the dead, which proves #1 & #2
4. We must believe on Him (trust in Him for our salvation). We can not be saved if our trust is elsewhere.
It should be noted that the facts that need to believed could be, and were in the sermons in scriptures, such that could be learned in a short discourse. Perhaps some can add some more items from the scriptures. I do not think the trinitarian doctrine will be among them, and I say this as a trinitarian.
