My dad has a couple of ponds near his home that are well stocked with large-mouth bass. After a couple of hours of fruitless casting the other day, I said to him, "If Jesus were here, He'd just tell us to cast a few yards over and we wouldn't be able to reel 'em in fast enough."

Paulespino,

Don't take from this that I'm a serious fisherman. Far from it. I used to fish a lot when I was growing up, but haven't done a lot since.

Jesus knew where the fish were; of course that's step # 1 when it comes to fishing. fish generally like to be around structure, be it logs in the water, weed beds, etc.

Paul- I am not sure where you are fishing (i.e. in a pond, river, lake, ocean?) if you are not sure where the fish are, ask around, or watch where people are catching them. then steal their spot when they leave. find out what bait or lures the fish are hitting on (bait shops should tell you).

but catching fish isnt everything; there's a certain enjoyment in trying, and of course it is a great way to spend time with your kids. however a bite now and then spices things up a tad. i helped my 4 year old nephew catch his first fish a couple of weeks ago. i told him that you are supposed to give the fish a kiss before throwing it back in and by golly he did it without even flinching!

I like to fish when I get the chance.

I have found over time, for me anyways I only catch them when I use live bait. Tried all the fancy lures and rarely caught anything on them except trout with tied flies.

But I sure have seen others pull fish in on artificial bait. As said before fish do seem to like to hang around "something" whether it's a dock or weeds or an old log. Of course then you get to "fish" your hook ot of the weeds etc. when they get stuck....hah!

Have fun, whether you get something or not, I sure like just being outdoors and the adventure of it all....

I am originally from the land of 10,000 lakes and so have fished quite a bit, but not as much anymore. My mother told me a story that her and my aunt - who was her future sister in-law at the time - were fishing with their future husbands (one was obviously my father) and the guys got tired of constantly having to bait the hooks so they refused to do it for a while so that they could fish as well. This did not stop the girls, however, and they simply fished with no bait on the hooks and brought in fish that way while the men caught nothing. Now, how is that for a Paul Bunyan fish story?

Come fish come, come fish come,
