Some truths can do harm, if not spoken in love, or in the right audience. If someone hears Dr. White slander someone else, the appropriate thing to do would be to approach Dr. White about this. To simply tell others about it may be intended as a warning to them, but could also just be gossip.

My definition of gossip would be something like: "Speaking evil of a person who is not present, to an audience that does not need to know, because they are neither part of the problem nor part of the solution."

If he does it publically--and he does! Pointing it out publically is quite appropriate, don't you think? So far, James White has bashed all Arminians on a regular basis, and in particular has defamed Dave Hunt, JP Holding, Dan Corner, Norman Geisler, Ergun Caner, Steve Gregg, and others I could mention. How he gets away with this and still manages to retain ANYONE'S respect is beyond me. But he will get NONE from me.

Maybe calling into his own show would be the more appropriate public forum. For one reason or another, he has chosen not to post here -- so, calling him to give him a chance to respond would be useful.

During the debate, I posted an open response to him here for comments he made about me personally on his chatroom. I knew at the time that he was being alerted of postings about him here, and was hoping for him to actually engage the discussion. He chose not to do so. But, he had a clear opportunity to do so in light of the debate time following of this site and I also posted a link to it on his chat room (or tried to, anyway). As I had been kicked off his site, I'm not sure that post made it on his forum.

Here is as literal a rendering of the sentence as I am capable of translating it:

For God's wrath is being revealed from heaven on all irreverance and unrighteousness of people, of the [ones] holding down the truth in unrighteousness.

In Greek the use of the participle as a noun is very common.

"of the ... holding down the truth in unrighteousness"
To render this into understandable English, one must supply "ones" in the text. This is equivalent to saying "of those who hold down the truth in unrighteousness". There is no significant difference.
