Interesting. Thanks for the article. It seems to potentially answer some questions. I would have like it to address the point you raised earlier in the thread as well.
sometimes they are able to describe items on top of the hospital or on top of cabinets, etc

indeed, steve. if those things can be verified, i.e. the near death experiencer actually seeing things that could not be known to them lying in a hospital bed, it would seem to move beyond "sleep paralysis" or biochemical explanations.

TK, the famous atheist turned theist, Anthony Flew, heavily researched the area of near death experiences. He no longer believes the phenomenon is some sort of "brain trickery" because of the documented cases of people seeing things that happened after they had flatlined. That has been the most perplexing challenge for scientists who study such things. Sleep paralysis, which everyone I know has expereinced at one time or another, is not even close to the near death experience that is associated with tunnels, lights, transcendent beings, etc.
