hmm-- you may be right-- i'll have to listen to the discussion you linked to to hear mr ross's position on this-- i cant recall his exact points but i have heard/read them some time ago.
i presume he says that the distances are too great, you couldnt store enough fuel, the civilization couldnt be old enough to be advanced technologically, etc. but maybe if some civilization learns to travel at warp factor 9 or fold space or use wormholes and stuff like that, it would be possible. i am only half kidding.
i guess my point is that if we find some sort of life, even microbes, on mars, or one of saturn's moons, etc then we certainly couldnt rule out that more advanced life forms are out there. it might even make it extremely probable. why wouldnt it? in other words, if God created microbes on mars, why not intelligent life on the 5th earth-like planet of the star epsilon 9? (i made up that name).
i realize this is all conjecture, but if they DO find life on mars, we will have to deal with it theologically.
