While "heresy hunting" can certainly be unhealthy, I think we are admonished to expose error. "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine " (II Tim. 4:2). "Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers " (Titus 1:9). While the Emergent movement has asked many good questions for the church today and our generation, I have concluded that the movement as a whole is very dangerous. We recently completed a free documentary after 2 years of researching the movement and would appreciate any feedback form brethren on this blog: http://www.holybibleprophecy.org/films/ ... nt-church/
While Rick Warren appears to be orthodox in essential Christian doctrine, his "seeker-sensitive" conduct such as endorsing A Common Word along with other Emergents is a compromise which seems worthy of some kind of church discipline. The document states that "Islam and Christianity not only share the same Divine Origin..." (http://www.acommonword.com/). Warren's signature appeared with Emergents Brian McLaren, Tony Jones and others on the response letter which borrowed Allah's title "All-Merciful One" and referred to Muhammad as a prophet (http://www.yale.edu/divinity/news/07111 ... ytimes.pdf).
Brian McLaren goes as far as saying: "And during his lifetime, Abraham—like Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad—had an encounter with God that distinguished him from his contemporaries and propelled him into a mission, introducing a new way of life that changed the world. . . . How appropriate that the three Abrahamic religions begin with a journey into the unknown" (McLaren, Brian. Finding Our Way Again. Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson. 2008. pp.22,23).
While we should use wisdom and not be hasty in pointing out false prophets, at what point should we as Christians name names in identifying false prophets and what action should be taken against them? Can this be comparable to those such as Demas, Hymenaeus, Philetus, Alexander the coppersmith, and Diotrephes as pointed out in the NT?
