Question about "Lucifer" in Isaiah 14:12

Post by _Sean » Sat Apr 17, 2004 3:37 am

Steve,
I'm just wondering who you believe Lucifer is (KJV, aka morning star). Is this in reference to satan as most people teach? Or does it have to do with the fall of some nation?

Sean,
If you would like to see a thorough discussion of the question whether Lucifer is Satan or not, I would direct you to my answer at another part of this forum. Under "Demonology" you will find the question "Was Satan once a holy angel?" I discuss Isaiah 14:12 there.
The short answer is: there is no biblical reason to associate "Lucifer" in Isaiah 14:12 with the devil. The passage about Lucifer is apparently addressed to the king of Babylon (see Isaiah 14:4) at the time of its fall (hence, most likely, Belshazzar).
