Ecclesiastes is a popular Old Testament book and is often quoted as if every word in it is wisdom. But where is the wisdom in Ecclesiastes? Bible-teacher Steve Gregg recently presented an Overview that will help clarify the meaning and purpose of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon's self-written epitaph.

I was unable to link to the mp3, and I listened to only a portion of the youtube.
However, I am rather fascinated by the following two verses from Ecclesiastes, which I quote in part from Chapter 7:
16 Do not be overly righteous ... Why should you destroy yourself?
17 Do not be overly wicked ... Why should you die before your time?
Did Solomon advise his readers to be overly mediocre in moral behavior for the sake of their personal well-being?

Paidion, I don't know why you are unable to link to the mp3 of this lecture. It works for me. I copied and pasted the link address here:

Try clicking on it and let us know if you're still having a problem.
Are any other folks on the forum having trouble connecting with lectures?
Concerning the verses you mentioned in chapter 7, I think Solomon was confessing some un-wisdom he believed in while he was away from God (under the sun). Ecclesiastes contains a lot of what the comedian George Carlin called, "Brain Droppings."

The link in your first post has a typo; doesn't work for me either. The second one works.

Good eye, backwoodsman!! I just corrected the link in my initial post. When I read Paidion's post, I went to the NP website and clicked on the link there, which is why the link "worked for me." I'm glad you let us know there was a problem, Paidion, and I'm glad you spotted what it was, backwoodsman. It's fixed now, I think/hope.
