Re: Real Miracles
Hi TK,
I wonder how that guy came to this conclusion:
Moral #1: God really hates to disappoint children.
Forgive me if I sound a little, well, envious here, but my two children were 4 and 2 years old when their father died. Why didn't God hate to disappoint them? Or me?
When I die and find myself in the presence of the Lord, I don't really want to be resurrected and brought back to this world. Maybe that's just me though.

That's an interesting article. I guess he is trying to argue that since resurrection is so common, to deny that Jesus was resurrected is ignorant. That's probably not very convincing to a non-believer.TK wrote:What do you guys think of this article?

i dont know much about Jim Rutz (the author) other than he has a book called "mega-shift" that i would really like to read because others have said it is compelling. apparently it argues for a shift away from the traditional church setting.
has anyone read it?

Jim Rutz seems a little caustic in his approach and writing from what I read in your link. Is he aiming to "preach to the choir" because I'm not sure a skeptic or an unbeliever would be able to embrace the point, true as it may be, due to the tone of the article, especially towards James Cameron.
On an aside, why do Christians get so angry about this stuff?
Yes, the assertions that the resurrection of Jesus is a farce is core to the Gospel, but does an angry or forceful answer affect anything?
How would Jesus respond?

hi dave--
when i read the article, i got the sense he was preaching to the choir. i think the main purpose of the article was to enlighten christians to the idea that there are miraculous things happening even today; perhaps we in the US are missing something.

This is the first I've heard of Jim Rutz, but I looked at his website last night. Something, I'm not sure what, bothers me about his ministry. I ordered the book Megashift, along with a book Mattrose talked about on his blog: There Is No I In Church, by Keith Drury. These two books might make interesting reading during Spring break. I have a feeling that they present opposing viewpoints.TK wrote:i dont know much about Jim Rutz (the author) other than he has a book called "mega-shift" that i would really like to read because others have said it is compelling. apparently it argues for a shift away from the traditional church setting.

i read some of the reviews of "megashift" on amazon.com- most reviewers seemed to like it a lot and thought he made excellent points. the ones that didnt like it felt what he was proposing was either unbiblical or going too far. a friend in my church just read it and he said it was very good- he is letting me borrow it.
