"all religions have historically treated women like this"

Some of my non-Christian FB "friends" from the UK use such atrocities as occurred this week in Manchester as a platform to air their opinions about "all religions".
Here`s one statement:
"All religions have historically tried to subjugate women; all religions obviously led by insecure men!!"
It`s offensive to me that such a poster will lump my brothers into the same category as men who blow up teenage girls. But if you were me, how would you nuancedly (if that`s a word) respond to such a slur?

Hi Ian,
Do you think a response to this is even worth your time? Your "friend" and his/her quote is such a glaring appeal to emotion that seems to be more interested in likes, loves, and laughing faces than rational discourse. I obviously don't know this person but one of the first things I thought when I saw that quote was "Don't cast your pearls before swine."
As for a response, if I were to give one, I'd point to Jesus- he was anything but an insecure man. He's the most secure man to ever walk this planet. Completely secure in his mission and beliefs, not to mention utterly revolutionary in his treatment of women. And he's the head of the largest religion in the world. Suggest to this friend that they pick up a Bible and read the gospel accounts about Jesus. Then they'll have a more accurate history of religion and religious leaders. And they may even be illuminated by the Holy Spirit.
It`s offensive to me that such a poster will lump my brothers into the same category as men who blow up teenage girls.
Indeed. It's also lazy and it seems that this poster is the one who's actually insecure. But who knows what kind of sour experience this person must have had with religion at some point? Pray for them.
Jason

I would respond, not to expect to win a debate but to inform anyone who might receive it. I might say Jesus elevated women even by having the first two witnesses to his resurrection be women, which at that time in history was yuge! (as a certain President would say!)

both good answers, thank you.
I have had one or two FB ding dongs with this man before. I sometimes post David Wood videos to my own page and it really winds him up, though as you say his antipathy began earlier, perhaps with a past experience of the relative behaviour of certain Christians and Muslims that he had in Africa.
