2 Tim 2:10 - Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
This is commonly used by Calvinists to establish their view of Scriptures, but could this mean that the elect here in his mind are those who will make a future choice to believe, and thus Paul has them in mind while enduring all things?

I think Paul is stating his willingness to suffer whatever comes his way for the sake of the Gospel so as to enable as many of the elect to come to a saving faith in Christ. He follows the example of Christ who endured suffering for our sake.
See:
Acts 9:16
Colossians 1:24-29

Calvinists use this scripture to support their views? Really?SoaringEagle wrote:2 Tim 2:10 - Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Sounds like it would backfire, no?
The only troublesome word would be "the elect." Well, what does that word mean in the Greek? "The Elect" is possibly referring to the group of people that will inherit salvation. Yes, Paul says, a group of people will eventually inherit salvation. Predestination is out of the picture.

The "elect" are the "called".
However, "Many are called, but few are chosen."
