Geneva Bible – Anti-King?

Post by SteveF » Thu Aug 22, 2013 10:37 pm

Someone called into the radio program asking about the possibility of King James not liking the Geneva Bible because it was anti-royalty.

From what I understand King James did not like the Geneva Bible largely because of its footnotes which constantly referred to kings and rulers as tyrants. Here’s a sample of some of the notes.

It’s also interesting to note that although previous English Bibles used the work tyrant in certain verses to describe people, the KJV does not contain the word tyrant a single time. Perhaps the translators sought to please the king or he ordered the word not to be used. Who knows?

Considering the KJB was government authorized and the King was the head of the government it seems highly likely. Good post, good info!
