No, I haven't read any of these guys, though I've heard a great dealt about Barth.bighaasdog wrote:Derek,

Just curious.

How do they know they are elect?

I just want to add that there is another view in which the elect is the Church rather than individual person. This makes more sense to me.

Would this happen to be the Church (Body of Christ) that is made up of individuals?

I think the point is the possibility that Christ is the "elect" One. When you repent and come to Christ you become part of Christ and therefore share in His election, eternal life, righteousness, etc.bighaasdog wrote:I just want to add that there is another view in which the elect is the Church rather than individual person. Think of it this way, when one argues for positional righteousness they say that we don't become righteous, but rather Christ's righteousness is imputed to us. The same can be true of election. Look at this passage:
2Pe 1:10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.
This isn't saying that you can make sure you're one of the elect by doing these things, it's saying you can secure (make firm) your election by doing the examples listed. How can you make your election firm if it's God's choice alone?

In every case where election and predestination are mentioned, the direct object of who is elect, is always individuals.
Just thought I would mention that little known information.
Therefore, trying to equivocate on this important subject is just a waste of time and misleads others.
Something other than exegesis is at work brothers!
