The new guy

Post by mkprr » Sun Apr 05, 2009 11:13 am

Hello everyone!
I have listened to the show off and on for the past 3 years mostly online because I work during the day. I have never listened to a more thought provoking Christian radio show. I have never listened to a TNP broadcast that didn’t excite my hunger for the scriptures. The respectful and contemplative manner in which even those who have some differing views from the host is inspiring.

I do have some different beliefs than a lot of you and hope to learn from you, and I hope to be able to answer some of your questions about my beliefs. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka Mormon)

I don’t have a lot of free time to chat but hope to participate as much as possible. I work full time, am trying to finish my degree, I am married and I have two amazing and very active Kids with a third on the way. But hey, I’d rather be busy than idle. It can just be hard to juggle everything I want to get done.

Today is the second day of what is called General Conference. We believe that the Lord has called Prophets Seers and Revelators today just as in times ancient. This weekend is a special weekend where all the saints meet to listen to those the Lord has appointed to lead the church. You are welcome to listen online as well. For us, it is like having the opportunity to listen to Peter James, John and Paul if they were alive today. Conference yesterday was amazing. The first session for today is starting now and will last 2 hours, the second will start at 1 pm pacific time. If you are interested you can watch today at http://www.lds.org you can also listen to recordings from the conferences anytime later at http://www.lds.org
I look forward to meeting you all!

Welcome here. Glad to hear that you enjoy Gregg's manner of teaching.

Most people here have doctrine that is a little different. But now Karen (karenprtlnd) will have some help explaining the Mormon doctrine.

If you get into the New Testament discussions, I look forward to seeing your view at times. Otherwise, I stay out of the debate about Mormon doctrines. But we will see how your studies on New Testament relate to others here. Though you may not see much consensus here anyhow.

Mike, welcome!

I saw you in the "By What Authority?" section and have already read the archeology article, googled Nahum, etc. and have more googles to read...

I have questions and a couple of counter-points, but have maxed my forum time for now.

...uhhh, did I say welcome? :D

Hey, there, Mike--

I'm new, too, and I'm glad you're here. I live in the SLC area, and have several LDS friends (met most of them through scrapbooking--feel free to snicker. ;) )

karenprtlnd wrote:I disagree that GBH and TSM have been actual real life prophets because of the idiocy that comes out of their mouths, but I don't actually know Thomas S. Monson as an individual, nor what a fun loving grandpa he may actually be. I'll bet he's actually a really smart man once you get to know him though. I never voted for him, so it's not like I've changed my mind or anything. I've pretty much always held this opinion of them both, and their very retarding administrative practices once they achieve tenure.

To be spending money like that, derived from a tithing made from little kids 8 years old and over, on their baby sitting money or from mowing lawns, or the truely unsuspecting, or the extremely pour. This administration then announces that the retired and aged no longer have to pay any tithing because they had tithed while they earned it. I for one, would not boast about my house much. Especially in public.
Who decides whether they are actual real life prophets ?
