Poor in Promised Land (Dt 15:11)

I have been reading through the OT and am in Dt now.

One thing that I never thought of before, was that God said there would always be poor in Israel. Now, obviously Jesus alludes/quotes this... but what just dawned on me was this: 'there were going to be poor people in the promised land.' I think this puts another wrench in the prosperity gospel and such. (Not that it isn't already a flawed understanding on a number of accounts)

Anyhow.. just a thought
