I use the KJV Only. However I am not a KJVOnly'er, if that makes any sense. I love the King James. I love the powerful way it is spoken. I love the word for word translation. I even love the archaic language. Makes me dig deeper for the words' meanings. I even love the singular thee and thou and plural ye and you.

What do you all read mainly and why?

I use the NASB. Why? I have no idea. For some reason I have just always been drawn to it. Maybe I like it because it isn't as popular as others.

Depends on what I am doing. For casual reading, I use the NIV or ESV. For word studies, I use the NASB. For searching for text I have memorized as a child, the KJV. For kindling, Good News For Modern Man.

I am a KJV man. I love it for a couple of reasons. It is easier to memorize, I love the language, Steve Gregg uses it, and it isn't copyrighted by some organazation.

Though, being an American in the 21st Century, I try as much as possible to actually speak the King's English amongst my friends and co-workers. Also, I am attempting to get my newspaper to send me a KJV edition, and I also pray in KJV. So too, I order my dinners in KJV. "Verily, I say unto thee, I would likest a bean and cheese burrito."

I figure if it's the authorized language, I want to speak with authorized authority.

It's pretty cool that the only group of people on the continent that actually speak this way are evangelical Christians. We kick butt!

I think the "textus receptus" is the best manuscript because the others are shorter by 5% but sometimes significant words are left out. Like in the beautitudes the textus says "anger without cause" but the Codex and Alexandria just say "anger" which would mean Jesus sinned. Since the KJV and NKJV use the textus they have my vote.

Isn't this because people through the ages added their own commentary and the commentaries were eventually grafted into the original text?

I was brought up on the NIV (Necessary In Vineyard, Nearly Inspired Version) but I actually prefer the NRSV.

For completely different reasons, I also love "Da Jesus Book" which is a New Testament produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators in Hawaiian Pidgin English.

I prefer inspiration by weight. I have a Liberty Study Bible from Jerry Falwell himself. Thing weighs about 17 pounds!

All kidding aside though, study of the history of the TR and some of Erasmus' humanistic beliefs makes for interesting reading.
