How do you spell it?

Post by Paidion » Sat Jul 24, 2021 7:15 pm

Is it "Savior" or is it "Saviour"? Seemingly it is spelled both ways in Bible versions. As for the versions that are on my Bible program, here are the results:

SAVIOUR --- ASV, AV, BBE, Darby, Douay, JB2000, LO, NIV, Wey, Williams, YLT (11 translations)

SAVIOR ---AKJV, Diaglot, EMTV, ESV, HCSB, NAS95, NKJV, NRSV, RSV, Webster (10 translations)

So I guess it's a matter of taste as to how we spell the word. I, myself, prefer the one with the "u" --- "Saviour"
Paidion

Man judges a person by his past deeds, and administers penalties for his wrongdoing. God judges a person by his present character, and disciplines him that he may become righteous.

Saviour is a very archaic spelling, no longer used in American English. It reflects a spelling convention still common in British English (Compare, e.,g., neighbour; labour; savour; succour).
