Another text for discussion in the recent vein....

Paul: For “[God] has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all. (emphasis added)

This is one of several texts which speaks of an action yet to take place as if it had already taken place. When God decides to do a thing, it's as good as done, and so we might as well say He has done it. In this case, it's "God has put all things in subjection under his feet." The second part speaks of "when all things are subjected to him", and so obviously this has not yet happened. I think this speaks of universal submission of all rational beings (except God the Father) to Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.

Jesus is even now subject to the Father. But then He will be subject in the sense of verse 24:

Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.

The Son of God will retain nothing for Himself. He always was subject to the Father, was subject to Him while He lived here on earth, is subject to Him in His present resurrected state, and will be subject to Him in that great and glorious day!

I agree with this statement. The trinity is hierarchical. This does not make make the Son, lesser than the Father, (although He said He was, as a human), no more than a wife is lesser than a husband.

How do these comments account for the thrust of "the Son himself will also be subjected ... that God may be all in all"? This seems to distinguish Jesus not only from the Father, but from God.

It is true that the Son is equally divine, but the father is still "greater" than He, as He Himself said. The fact that He said this "as a human" is irrelevant. For when He was a human, the Father was greater than He Himself, and not merely his human body. If the Father were greater then, He still is now, and always was. How was He greater? Was it not in the sense that the Father is the authority?

If a husband and wife take their Biblical roles of the wife being subject to the husband as the Church is to Christ, then is not her husband "greater" in the sense of being the authority? Even though they are equally human?
