In God's image?

You may recognize this passage from Genesis.

So God created man in His own image,
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.

What does this mean to you? Do we literally resemble God... e.g. He has two eyes, a nose, and a mouth? Or is the reference symbolic, and if so, symbolic of what?

I think we are made in the image of God in that we a persons. God is a person with a mind, will, preferences, etc.. Not with a body, two eyes, etc. (at least not the Father or Holy Spirit).

I think also we are made in his image in that we are rational, and we know right from wrong. I think these are literal attributes that constitute our being made in His image. Not figurative.

I agree with much of what Derek stated. I think the chief way in which man was created in the image of God is having been given a free will.

And we all get a great sense of satisfaction from creating something meaningful which we derive from being made in the image of the great Creator.
