To add to Steve's list of things the scripture does say, there does seem to be some level of correct thought about Jesus that has to be present. I'm thinking of 1 John 4:2-3 (He came in the flesh)/ 1 John 5:1 (He is the Christ). I just throw it in for sake of knowing things we can flex on and things we shouldn't.

The book of 1st John makes several repetitive, clear statements about knowing who belongs to God. Those who walk in love, obey Christ, have a level of right believe about who Jesus is, and the Spirit (which I guess could be a cause of all the others anyways). I find this helpful because sometimes there seems to be someone very strong in one or two of these things, but showing almost no evidence of the other things. Obviously, God will be there judge of what they are. It's easy to focus on one of those things and forget the others when we're asking ourselves if someone genuinely belongs to Christ.

For what it's worth.
