Hi everybody,
How do you test prophecies given in a small group setting? I am trying to collect biblical principles to judge prophecies. I would appreciate any insights you have.

Do you mean fore-telling? If so, just wait and see if what was prophecied comes to pass.
Paul says "Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the others judge".
That could mean the other prophets. Or, the other people in the room.

The prophecies are not foretelling for the most part. It's correction, encouragement or about what God wants to do in the group. When a prophecy is not necessarily contradicting scripture but causes some confusion in the group and about half of the people think it was legitimate but the other half does not feel right about it - are there any more biblical principles on how to judge them beyond the "come true" and "in accordance with scripture" - test. For example, I was thinking confusion is not a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Would it be legit to judge on that basis, or could it just be that the confused ones are not mature enough ...

sometimes i hear something that sends up "red flags." i don't know how else to describe it. i believe that the HS provides discernment (if we are walking in the Spirit) about various matters.
That being said, I dont know if "red flags" in and of themselves mean that what is spoken is not a true statement from the Lord. I don't belong to a charismatic church, so I honestly havent really experienced what you are dealing with.
the "confusion" issue you mention is interesting, however the confusion may be due to the lesser maturity of some believers or some other factor, as opposed to it not being a true "prophecy."
i know I sound wishy-washy but I do not believe there is a cut and dry answer to this.
