difficult finding a "bible study"

It has been difficult finding a Wed. ( or other night) bible study.
It seems they study other people's writings, but the bible
is not of upmost importance. Where are the "good ol' days"
of praying through, worship, and reading the bible in church?
I am tired of overhead's as they are a lazy way of not bringing
a bible. Any comments appreciated.

I remember a "Bible study" where the Scripture was read in one translation, and then someone would say, "Well, my ASV says...", immediately followed by, "My RSV says...", and then "My NIV says, etc."
It was not a Bible study but a statement of various translations of the passage in question.
If the persons participating in the Bible study do not all bring an agreed-upon translation, or use a set of Bibles which the church has purchased, then perhaps the Bible students could leave their Bibles at home, and the overhead could be used to display the Bible passage in a particular translation so that the passage could be studied.

Hi Paidion,
On the other hand, having different translations can make it more interesting too. Sometimes, by having people compare what a passage says in their translation, it brings out nuances of meaning (and can lead to some fun discussion).
Hi MLH,
Maybe your desire to find a mid-week Bible study is God's way of telling you to start one! There are often opportunities to do so at shelters, jails, prisons, etc., or you could start something at the local coffee shop or your home. You don't have to give sermons, just facilitate a Bible study. Nothing I know of is better for causing you to learn the Bible than leading a Bible study!

I would suggest that you start your own and spread the word. People are looking for all different kinds of "small group" studies. I am part of a "life group". We are a small group of 30 and 40 somethings that get together once a week and eat, share the happenings of the past week with eachother, have a topical study (with a couple different translations to see different possible views/interpretations), share prayer requests, socialize a bit more and leave. Some would see this as kind of "light" or not "in-depth" study, but that is not the nature of this particular group meeting. I enjoy in-depth study of the bible (probably why I enjoy Steve Greg and The Narrow Path so much) and instead of trying to make this group conform to that format, I would just get together with another group or during another time with the same group to focus on that.
I definitely would agree that modern Christians lack the true study of the bible. We all need to be "Workman" that need not to be ashamed as we are "rightly dividing" the word of truth and studying to show ourselves approved unto God. (What translation was that???)
God Bless!
