Dead and Sick: The description of the wicked

Post by __id_2618 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 2:05 am

Steve,

When I called and asked you for your thoughts on the Calvinist illustration (the Lazarus story) of Paul's usage of dead found in Ephesians 2:1, you spoke of how other authors of Scripture also described the wicked being sick. In this post, you said "Why is it necessary to take the metaphor of death as absolute, to the exclusion of the metaphor of sickness? Jesus used the latter, as did Isaiah, Peter, and others. Are we entitled to pick and choose which biblical metaphors suit our agendas best, and to deny the others? Could you please give me all the relevant references you had in mind? Thanks Steve.

P.S.
If anyone else knows of any relevant Scriptures for the wicked being described as "sick", please share them.
