Has anyone read Reimagining Church? It is the sequel to Pagan Christianity.

I have not read it, but I was wondering if anyone else has. You can read the first chapter here: http://www.reimaginingchurch.org/

I am picking it up from the library today.

i will read it with trepidation and likely frustration, because i am fearful it will make me over-critical of the church i attend and its structure. but i will read it nonetheless.

Do you mean public libraries in the U.S. carry Christian books? Wow! I'm jealous.

Absolutely, Suzana! Most libraries have a religion section and in my community our library will even take book donations no matter the topic.

Hi Suzana-

yes- we are pretty fortunate.

I recently read three other excellent books i picked up from the library right near where I work:

1) surprised by the power of the Holy Spirit, by Jack Deere
2) Pagan Christianity, by Frank Viola
3) rediscovering the kingdom, my Miles Munroe

Not long ago, I asked my library to get Pagan Christianity, not as a loaner but for in-stock. They got it, np. {I mainly ordered it for a pastor who was looking for it}.

One former {recently retired} librarian at my relatively small library is Presbyterian. He worked there for maybe 30 years and ordered all kinds of gr8! theology books from Westminster/Knox. However, the library was down-sizing for more shelf space and auctioned off many books I had assumed would always be there. I knew about the auction {books for like 50 cents!} but had to work that day and was too lazy to go afterward, :|

Among several books I totally missed out on getting for cheap! were:
The Christology of the New Testament, by Oscar Cullman (a classic}
The Method and Message of Jewish Apocalyptic, by D.S. Russell {awesome book!}
The Son of Man in Myth and History, by F.H. Borsch
HERMENEIA Commentaries! {the best around, retail for at least $75), :cry:

Thankfully, they didn't get rid of ALL the good books!
And, I must admit I don't especially care for many of the new books they're getting.
Maybe I should ask for some more? ;)
{have not, ask not}....

Sue,

Won't Aussie libraries get you theology books if you ask them?
I mean, just to borrow for a couple weeks?

I'm sure I'll eventually be reading Viola's new book (his ministry sends me emails all the time telling me to do so, since I bought like 10 copies of Pagan Christianity). But I won't have time anytime soon (I just started 2 master's courses, one on wesleyan theology and one on faith & culture, both of which require much reading. When combined with my reading for teaching prep, I can't do recreational reading anymore). Plus, I need a break from Viola anyways :)

That's an interesting idea! I'm not sure actually. I've certainly never noticed the availability of popular Christian books.
Come to think of it, I haven't been to a library for years - since I've stopped reading murder mysteries and such in numerous quantities. I'll have to check things out next time I have a chance.
