How could one come to know what the Evangelical might mean when they say that the LDS worship a different Jesus than the they do. How can it be a different Jesus?
I think it comes down to whom do you say Jesus is. Chirstians believe Jesus is God one with the Father and Holy Spirit. LDS does not.

I don't think it's very useful to talk about a 'different' Jesus. But certainly it is important to speak about Jesus accurately.

As noted above, some claim that Jesus is fully God. Some claim that Jesus is a lesser god. Some claim that Jesus was an angel. Some claim that Jesus was just a man. All of these beliefs are beliefs about the same Jesus, but at least 3 of those beliefs are wrong.
