Christians and the Covid Vaccine

Post by Homer » Tue Sep 14, 2021 1:40 pm

Recently we were in a nearby town where we saw a crowd along main street, a protest of some sort. We circled the block and drove by to see what it was about. The protest was in opposition to the government pushing Coved vaccinations. I noticed among the protestants were some people I know to be Christians. It seems to me that opposition to vaccination is not something Jesus would approve of.

Being unvaccinated contributes not only to the spread of the disease and the harm which can include death, it also fills hospitals and delays treatment of people with cancer and other serious illnesses. I just heard a report of a major hospital in Portland that had numerous patients in with covid, every one of them unvaccinated.

My wife and I are both vaccinated. We experienced some moderate side effects from the vaccine (I could not lift my arm for a couple days). But not only should we be vaccinated for our own benefit, but that of our neighbor. It is dismaying seeing Christians protesting the pressure to get vaccinated. We should willingly sacrifice our comfort and minimal risk of side effects for the sake of others.

Homer,

Sorry brother, but I disagree with you on this one. You could say the same things about the flu shot, but why hasn't the government mandated those? The flu has killed multiplied thousands of people, but NO flu shot mandates have been issued. Why? Doesn't the government care? Obviously, there is something VASTLY different about the COVID vaccines. The truth is that this is not about saving people's lives, but it is about controlling our lives. To FORCE a COVID vaccine as a condition to stay employed - and that directive coming from the illegitimate "President", is, at the very least, dictatorial, and communism at worst. It is also unconstitutional. Also, the many reports of very serious affects from the vaccine are tragic. Just today, it was reported that a young couple was engaged and the young man got the vaccine shot. It severely affected his testicles, making him unable to have children. His fiance called off the wedding. Several women have reported that their periods have stopped, possibly rendering them infertile. Some have died from blood clots and heart issues.

Also, the "President" and the main-stream media are dividing our country, by calling this the "pandemic of the unvaccinated". God says in Proverbs that He HATES those who spread strife among brothers. But this evil phrase only serves to stir up hatred by the vaccinated against the unvaccinated.
Besides that, it's a LIE that the unvaccinated are causing the virus to spread even more. The truth is that MANY vaccinated people are getting COVID, so exactly how much good did the vaccine do? Satan LOVES to get the vaccinated to HATE the unvaccinated. Just as he LOVES to get people who didn't vote for Trump, to HATE him, and all those who voted for him.

Brother, please don't join the self-righteous vaccinated crowd who look down on those who have chosen to not get the shot. Again, when you got the flu shot (assuming you did), were you "crusading" for those who didn't get it, to get the shot? Is it unChristian-like for Christians to choose to NOT get the flu shot? Of course not. That's their business, just as it is with the COVID shot.

By the way, Christians don't give up their rights as citizens of a country. Paul used his Roman citizenship to his advantage. In this country, our constitution gives us many rights. We have the right to accept or refuse anything that someone else wants to put into our bodies. The government has no business interfering with that right, and the citizens should not cheer them on if and when they try to do that.
I think that Jesus would "let each man be convinced in his own heart", and support individual choice. He also would not put a guilt trip on those who may differ from a socialist, communist, government.

The main stream media and Democrat politicians LOVE to report how our emergency rooms are FILLED with the unvaccinated. First of all, I don't believe a word of it. These are the same people who said that Joe Biden won fair and square - that there was NO wide-spread cheating! A MAMMOTH LIE!!! Did these hypocrites also report how many people filled the emergency rooms, who chose NOT to get vaccinated for the flu? NOT A WORD!!

Even IF their reporting were true, so what, that's NONE of our business. They might as well report on how many people fill ER rooms, who overdosed on drugs, or crashed while driving drunk, so we can all HATE druggies and alcoholics, because they reduce the care for people with legitimate issues, like cancer, and pneumonia, etc. But no, they would rather focus on the politically correct issue of the day - the unvaccinated! Let's all get together and HATE them and ostracize them from society. That happened once, to the Jews - by Hitler! The unvaccinated are no more guilty than the Jews were. Leave them alone!

I find myself in complete agreement with Dwight, and might even go further.

At some risk of devolving into debates of the science and politics, I would add that there is a compelling case to be made that the widespread vaccination effort, itself, vaccinating the mass population during the pandemic outbreaks itself with what is known as a "leaky" vaccine (one that is not sufficiently neutralizing or efficient at preventing infection/spread) is actually detrimental to our neighbor's health and is driving the variants which (if it continues) will likely create a variant that "escapes" all available vaccine technology and is perhaps even more deadly. This is a well known risk in virology and vaccinology and is most famously represented in vaccine programs for certain chicken virus outbreaks (see Marek's disease).

It has become incontrovertible that these vaccines are "leaky" and at best perhaps about only 40% effective at preventing infection and spread - the very definition of vaccination has been changed to avoid references to "immunity" or infectiousness altogether and is focused only on preventing serious illness. There is some indication that these vaccines do have some beneficial value in preventing serious disease, but without materially preventing or limiting spread. So, this would suggest it is not a case of doing it for your "neighbor," but only as a personal health decision in light of your personal risk of serious illness or death. As such, it is not right to take any moral position against someone's own reluctance, and I would suggest it is those giving in to the program out of fear which is harming their neighbor.

By the way, natural immunity from previous exposure/infection (now a growing if not supermajority percentage of the unvaccinated) does not suffer from this as it is broad and not "leaky."

There is a lot more to say on this, but perhaps this isn't the best forum. From a religious perspective, though most here are not dispensationalists or have a futurist view of eschatology, this is sure starting to look like a spiritual deception and something where the "beast" is requiring a "mark" of submission to work and buy and sell and eat and travel, etc.

The right thing to do (and to have done) is to reserve the vaccines to protect the elderly and compromised/vulnerable, let the virus do what viruses will do and spread to the healthy population, taking care to guard one's immune systems with healthy eating and vitamins and exercise, plenty of fresh air, quarantine the sick, use regular hygiene to lessen any viral load and slow the spread, and use all available early interventions to reduce the severity of the disease when ill. If we had done this, it would have been over very quickly.

What has been done has been essentially the exact opposite and is driving a global crisis. I'll let the discerning among us consider to what end.

My son has a peanut allergy. It has become a very common problem, and children and adults are dying at an alarming rate. Maybe everyone who wants to save "even a single life" can mandate a ban on peanut butter and all peanut based products. Wouldn't that be a loving thing to do?

So the polio and small pox vaccines were a mistake? I will stand by what I said.

Very different risk profile to the world and a fairly conventional and both were a fairly low-risk vaccine type, but even they were not vaccinated into active widespread pandemic outbreaks (and the polio and smallpox vaccines arguably were not "leaky"). It was 20-30 years into the spread of the disease (which had already been around for 20 years or so) that mass vaccination began and 5 years after it was "starting" to rise again that mass vaccination was given to prevent a further spread of the disease. Also, even according to mainstream historians early vaccine trials were killing and paralyzing people. It was another 20 years after those trials that there was any mass vaccination (and it was never widespread like CoV2), so maybe a bad example?

But, I do have a different view towards them as well. Polio especially.

If you're interested in alternative views of polio, in particular, and whether the vaccine did more harm than good, consider this book:

I might also note that polio is on the rise again, and many experts are blaming the renewed vaccination effort for the resurgence.
