THe value of seminary

Post by _Anonymous » Tue Jun 22, 2004 11:34 pm

Many pastors and clergyman today have gone to seminary, and this seems to be the way that many people get into ministry. Is there any value in doing such a thing? If just anybody can go to seminary if they have an education from an accredited school, then why should anyone go to seminary? Doesn't it make it simply an intellectual exercise? What are some of the problems and positives that people see in a seminary education.

Dear Anon,
I've noticed that you have asked a number of questions to the forum yet you are not registered and have not introduced yourself. My name is John Barbour. I live in Seaside, CA. I am 51 years old and have been a Christian for 38 years. I was raised in Pittsburgh, PA in the Reformed/Orthodox Presbyterian tradition. I attended Bible School at Philadelphia College of Bible and college at Covenant College, Lookout Mt. TN and Seminary at Gordon Conwell in MA and Wesley in DC. Tell me a little about yourself. You can send me your answer via a private message if you wish.
A brother in Christ,
John
