The Narrow Path Ministries

A friend's father has passed away, and the family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a specified Catholic order. Is it permissible to make donations to a Catholic order? I obviously do not want to cause any offense, but am concerned about the propriety of giving money to a religious organization that may not be considered orthodox from my perspective.

What did he pass away from? If cancer, you could donate to the Cancer Society; or heart disease to a heart disease research foundation; etc...

I find it odd that they would ask non-Catholics to give money to a Catholic organization.

Thanks, Rae. It was a heart attack, apparently. For what it's worth, I'm told by another friend that it's common, at least in the South, for families to request donations to the deceased's church, and that perhaps I'm being oversensitive for worrying about this issue.

Invision Christ in this situation. What do you think He would likely do? Since He now reigns as Lord in our hearts, and it's no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us, yeild to Him and allow Him to do whatever you think He would do. Do you think this expresses the character and puts on open display the name of God? The answer to that these questions should be an answer to your question/s.
