Hi JC,
I don't know if your wife would go for this or not, but an acquaintance of mine, Winn Griffin, is launching a free email-based program to read through the Bible in 100 days, but not in the fragmented way that it's typically done. He incorporates a new Bible that has recently been published by the International Bible Society called "The Books of the Bible". I've got one and I really like it. The chapter and verse numbers have been removed, so it reads more like a book. Also some of the books have been reordered to make it more chronological.
Here's the website for "The Books of the Bible":

Winn is one of my favorite Bible teachers (along with Steve Gregg and N.T. Wright) and has had a big influence on me.
Here's Winn's announcement. I forwarded this to my sister, who is not a Christian, and was pleasantly surprised when she replied that she had signed up for it because it looked interesting to her.

Defrag Your Bible Reading
Just a note to let you know that I have launched a "Reading the Bible
Without Additives in 100 Days" web site to help folks read through the
Bible Without Additives in about 100 days using "The Books of The
Bible," which is a presentation of Today's New International Version
(TNIV) of the Bible published by International Bible Society.
The new year is just around the corner and some folks are beginning to
think about their Bible reading plan for the next year, well some folks,
but not all.
Every "Read Through the Bible in a Year" plan fragments the reading of
the text by suggesting that you read two chapters from one book and one
chapter from another book. That just doesn't make any sense. Nobody
reads books that way, except for the Bible.
We can correct this errant way of reading the books of the Bible by
reading them with their own internal structures.
If you are an average reader (about 250 words a minute ), you can read
the whole Bible in about 70 hours. That's right, about 70 hours and I
have broken that 70 hours up into 100 readings for 100 days following
the Bible's own internal structure.
