Healing

Post by _MLH » Thu Jan 18, 2007 11:53 pm

there are so many scriptures pointing to "faith" while waiting for a healing.
Jesus himself spoke of various people's faith and their great faith. He spoke about unbelief and being double-minded as well..

Question;

IF someone has a physical problem ( scolosis/back pain) and have prayed
in faith, called for elders of church and done all they need to do as far as they know, is it best just to relinquish and quit asking? Jesus himself said
we can ask what we want and it will be give...This kind of confuses me.
I have prayed over 20 years and although better I am not healed. It was
suggested that I thank the Lord for my healing before he heals...I am
obviously not healed, yet...

thanks

Hey MLH,

I just have a couple of not totally related replies. First, I think it's easy to read the 'ask and you'll receive' verses without admitting that there are conditions attached in other parts of Scripture. For example:

You must ask in faith (matthew 21:22)
You must first forgive others (mark 11:25)
You must ask in Jesus' name (John 14:14)
You must remain in Christ (John 15:7)
You must bear fruit (John 15:16)
You must first obey (1 John 3:22)
You must ask according to His will (1 John 5:14)
You must have a right motive (James 4:3)

You could consider checking your heart to see if you're obeying all of these verses. But, I think it is even more worth your time to consider the possibility that miraculous healing was never intended to be the norm. In the early christian writings, it seems they believed such healings were more often directed toward unbelievers as a sign for them and less often occurred within the church.

Certainly God is capable of healing and may do so in any given case. But He also may not will it, as suffering can also be used to accomplish His good purposes.

Mainly, once you've examined your heart, if you aren't aware of anything from the verses above that may be preventing your prayers from being answered as you hope, and you're still not healed, don't blame yourself. Do all you can do and let God make the call.

in Christ,
matthew

MLH,

Keep on praying and never give up! I prayed for my brother to be saved for over 20 years and finally my prayers (and others I'm sure) were answered.

May God bless and heal you!

MLH, You know Paul said to pray without ceasing and the prayers of a righteous man/women availeth much.
Re whether thanking the Lord before you're healed, it depends on what's biblical and how God heals. For example if Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law is it the curse that the law alone can't save us or does it include the curses in Duet 28 that include diseases. Did Jesus heal to identify himself as Messiah or is it because of his compassion and if so then because He is the same yeaterday, today and tomorrow would'nt he heal us today? Obviously healing is different then salvation in that there are other factors involved besides only our faith but IMHO God wants us healed generally speaking therefore i do often thank Him for healing even if i still have symptoms of the ailment.

Hey MLH,
Would you be willing to reveal your first name? If you have a reason not to, I don't want to ask you to do something that would make you uncomfortable...it's just that it feels kinda strange to pray for "MLH," it sounds like a delivery company or a parts dealership.

Thanks,
Michelle
