I have been wondering just how everyone view Christmas, and how it is celebrated, if it is celebrated. Please indicate in the poll. Feel free also to post your thoughts.

What's the difference between #3 and #4? So far I'm the only one who voted for #3 Maybe I meant #4!?

Well, I never taught my kids to expect stuff from Santa which was a little tricky because their cousins believed in him, plus they went to public school. I had to teach them about letting other people enjoy their fantasies without bothering to fill them in on the facts.

Also, Paidion I'm not sure if this is part of what you are asking or not, but I don't enjoy this season. Maybe I have some anxiety disorder, but I hate the short days of December, I hate crowds at the stores, and I hate spending money. I'm just glad when it's all over. I like New Years Day better.

#4 indicates the observance of Xmas to be strictly a celebration of the birth of Christ. #3 does not. It is more concerned with the traditions of Xmas with the birth of Christ being part of those traditions.

My vote came up under:

I celebrate Xmas exclusively as the birth of Christ. I sing Xmas carols, but only those which concern the birth of Christ. I do not set up a Xmas tree or lights in my home, and avoid all practices which originate from Pagan religions.

Being single and with no significant other (as in, a Christian "girlfriend")...I usually go to a family "Christmas party" (if anyone is having one). I tell everyone in advance I won't be buying any presents. I ask that they buy me nothing but they always do (socks every year, lol). I'm pretty poor financially. But if I had more money I might buy a few gifts which would either be things directly related to Christ (Christian books, etc.) or stuff that people really need.

On Christmas Eve and/or Day I visit with my mother who also lives alone. We just relax, eat leftovers, and may watch some type of "Christ special" on t.v. She has a tree every year and a few gifts (my new socks for the next year), God bless her!

In one sense you are not alone, Michelle. You are in a group of 4, each one of whom was the only voter for his or her choice.

I was the only one to vote for #1. There was only one person who voted for #5, and only one who voted for #6.

All righty then...we can be the rugged individualists.

I wonder who voted for #6. I wanna know how to avoid the season altogether.

That would be me Its not that hard if your friends & family are not near by. Once the tree is gone so is the pull that it has. I just don't see any reason to go thru all the hoopla. I have a cousin whose son's birthday in on the 26th so I do celebrate that with them.

So the trick is to move, huh? I haven't had a tree for years, but my family still wants to do stuff. At least this week the weather in Southern California masks what the season is!

why do i get a sad feeling when i read about those of you who dont really enjoy christmas? i cant really imagine that, i guess. you seem okay with not enjoying it, so i guess i will try not to feel bad that you dont enjoy it. but i wish you did!
