immunizations/flu shots/etc

Post by _Les Wright » Sat Nov 05, 2005 8:52 am

Hi Steve (& Others)

Steve, I believe you aren't keen on kids getting immunized and people getting flu shots, etc.. I am just wondering if you have posted (or will post) a summary of your reasoning and any good resources on the matter (both for and against).

Tx

Les

Hi Les,

I don't have any expertise to speak authoritatively on this topic. There are good books and websites that tell of the dangers of immunizations. I gave my reasons for my discomfort with them (and a link to an informative web site) in my second post at the following thread: http://www.wvss.com/forumc/viewtopic.php?t=541

My children did get some immunizations, and we by-passed others. I no longer have small children, and I am frankly glad to no longer be in the position to make decisions about immunizations. I do not get any flu shots or similar vaccinations. But every parent should pray about the matter, do a bit of research, and then let the peace of God lead on.

is this an issue worth breaking the law over?

I have one young child and another on the way and i was a bit shocked by something that happened recently. We chose to get our daughter certain immunizations (tetanus, mmr, etc) but we chose not to get her the chicken pox vaccine. Nothing was said to us at first, but a couple of months later they called and said that we had to get her the chicken pox shot. i guess now it's the law or something... it seems like a trivial thing to make a big deal over. i can't come up with a scriptural reason to not do it, but it really seems wrong to me. Has chicken pox ever killed anyone or seriously disabled them? If not then why should this be required? Have any of you ever dealt with something like this?

Where do you live, Jess? I doubt that it's a "law". I suspect that the Health officials were trying to make you believe that you "had to" do it.

Several times when I was donating blood, I was told that I "had to" lie down for 10 minutes before departing. I just got up and said, "I'm okay," and walked out in spite of the protests. There was no law against it. I wasn't arrested.

Well, once I keeled after donating blood, so now I follow their directions.

I doubt there is a law saying you must immunize your children, but I don't think they are allowed to attend public school if they haven't been. Maybe that's what they are getting at.

As far as disabling complications, chicken pox can lead to pnemonia or encephalitis in people with weak immune systems and can cause birth defects if a pregnant woman contracts it. Mostly it's a pretty mild disease, however.

It might be required before you can put your child into day-care or school. But if you homeschool then it shouldn't be a problem. Even if you place you child in school you should be able to get a waiver for religious reasons to refuse the shots.
