Inheritance

Post by _Rae » Fri Aug 01, 2008 11:11 am

The topic of money made me think of another issue in regards to money....

What if someone were to receive an inheritance with the stipulation that it could not be given away (it could only be used to benefit the family). Should they refuse to take the money? Should they take the money and give away the interest? Would it be okay if their standard of living increased?

??????

There is no sin in being prosperous, and, if the money really served to provide legitimate provisions for the family, even increasing, in some respects, their standard of living, I would see no problem with receiving the inheritance as a blessing from God. Especially, if you have been faithful with what you had before, God may well be granting you an upgrade.

On the other hand, I would not wish to have anything on-hand that I was not free to give away, or otherwise to steward as my conscience would see fit. Instead of turning down the inheritance, I would probably accept it, and use it to provide the needs of my family—and then give away a larger portion of the other income that I had previously used to meet those needs.

Question 1: No

Question 2: That's an option.

Question 3: Yes

Much for the same reasons Steve pointed out.

Hmmm - if such a person then continued to work to have money to give away, that would be a pretty good test of where his heart was I would think.
