Pleasant or Bitter

During his New Great Commission School lectures, Steve Gregg often highlights practical applications drawn from Scripture. Biblegate has opened a new playlist titled "Highlights," which will be a collection of those applications.

The first video in "Highlights" is taken from one of Steve's lectures on the book of Ruth. Naomi, Ruth's mother-in-law, had experienced years of hardship before returning destitute to her homeland, Israel. Upon her return, she blamed God for her difficulties and told her friends to call her Mara, meaning "bitter," instead of Naomi, which means "Pleasant." At the time, Naomi was failing to understand God's bigger and better purpose for her trials.

Naomi's shortcoming can serve as a lesson for us. We should see God's sovereign hand at work in life's tribulations. Instead of becoming bitter, we can become better by giving God thanks during every situation.
