angels male or female or?
angels male or female or?
I have assumed angels are male by names of angels.
But I am wondering more specifically are they either sex?and what supports that in Gods word .
Thank you for any replies.

i believe this is the only POSSIBLE direct biblical support for female angels. However, I personally believe that there are female angels. just because none are specifically mentioned does not mean that they do not exist. Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. Re: angels male or female or?
well- i suppose you are asking whether angels are "sexless." the bible seems to suggest that the angels that appeared to men at least looked like men- at Jesus's ascension- the two angels at the tomb, etc. so i believe they had male characteristics. I was only stating that I believe there may be angels with female characteristics. however i really don't have any support for this idea other than it just seems that there would be.
if there are "male" and "female" angels it doesn't necessarily follow that they are sexual beings, i suppose.

Re: angels male or female or?
I think most would suggest they are sexless because they don't have sex since they neither marry nor are given in marriage. But, where does it say that sex is only for marriage in heaven (or in the new earth?) Perhaps, that "covenant only" restriction for sex on earth is due to sin, and that procreation without sin could be had by angels without the need for a covenantal limitation (as in much of the rest of the animal kingdom). Just a thought...

Thanks again TK.
Basically I am an artist and I have been pondering how different artists over the ages have portrayed them.I was wondering where they might have gotten "biblical" info that supported their decisions.
Some are female, some male and alot are slightly "covered" with wispy cloths" as to hide the genital? area in the art world. When it comes to cherubs they portray them alot as like litle chubby males with wings.Baby like.More cupide like really as far as history goes (myth).
Its also interesting over the ages how some angels float on clouds, some have wings, some are just heads with wings, and some have multiple wings. But than in the bible I believe all 3 of the 4 are images are in the word.
Thanks for your input.Especially the female ones. I missed that and have always wondered why the "world' has this constant image of angels being beautiful woman with wings....lol. I thought if sexed, they were always male. You showed me some thing new there. THANK YOU!

Re: angels male or female or?
Of course, most of the angel appearances seemed to convey fear and trembling instead of whispy "angelic" beings (especially cherubs -- wielding flaming swords, etc.). I think most of the "human-like" appearances as in the men by the tomb were more likely apparitions of a sort where they purposefully took on the form of humans rather than actually conveying their normal appearance.
Re: angels male or female or?
I think it has to do with the 'making nice' of Christianity, i.e., Christmas is most celebrated because it is time to adore the helpless baby in the manger, the celebration of the resurrection has more to do with Easter bunnies. But in the Bible angels are quite formidable beings, whether God's angels or the fallen ones. Godly female strength is just as strong as male strength - just of a different order. Waddya think?. . .always wondered why the "world' has this constant image of angels being beautiful woman with wings.

Hi,
I agree man and woman are both strong, just different areas of strength, yet some the same.I also agree the world , that does not understand the true meaning of Christ (or at the least those that do and are trying to blot him out "nicely")do celebrate the holidays as you have described.
I personally actually didn't equate the worlds position that much as making Christianity all nice and sweet, though your point is well taken, when asking my orig. question.. One of the reasons this site is so cool, we all DO have a piece of the pie! and are all needed. So I really enjoy these responses.
I was originally wondering why females were even shown as angels in the first place, because I honestly thought "bibilically" they were only to be portrayed as male when they were discussed some times by names. My mother always refereed to them as male only also.
I paint and am interested in religious art. Alot of the old masters painted in references to the bible for church commissions they had etc. Some were actually Christians and used their art as a tool to evangelize ( van Gogh being one, though many would find that hard to understand by just observing his paintings). Most of the angels from those periods are very strong and mighty. And when compared to discriptions in Gods word, some are quite correct visually.I think it is more of todays visual angels that are pretty and sweet as you have said.
So it is interesting to me to compare what I "see" in art and what I read in Gods word.
I want to be as correct as I can in painting Gods word visually, though I know that is still some what left to the creator in me also.God hopefully...haha.
