I just started reading this book which takes the historical view of Revelation and it seems very interesting. It can be downloaded for free at ellisskolfield.com or fish-house.com
Here is an excerpt from the book.

So far you have read some almost unbelievable Bible prophecies many of which have come to pass right in our own generation.
1. The 1290 days of Dan 12.11 fulfilled in 688AD by the construction of the Moslem Dome of the Rock.
2. The 42 months of Rev 11.2 fulfilled in 1967AD by the freeing of Jerusalem from gentile control.
3. The 1260 days of Rev 11.3 fulfilled in 1948.
4. The 1260 days of Rev 12.5 fulfilled in 1948.
5. The time,times and half time of Dan 12.7 fulfilled in 1967 by the freeing of Jerusalem.
6. The time,times and half time of Dan 7.25 fulfilled in 1948.
7. The season and time of Dan 7.12 fulfilled in 1948 when gentiles lost control of the holy land.

It is a statistical impossibility for all the above prophecies to exactly fit scripture and history to the year as they do unless this is the correct intrepertation. by Ellis Skolfield

After reading some smaller sections of the free online version of the book and some other critiques of it....

the main problem with his view seems to be that he has the 70th week of Daniel 9 starting BEFORE the first 69 weeks. This view, to me, makes little sense in light of that fact. He seems to use 2 different decrees in order to make the numbers fit.

Mattrose, I may be missing something but according to page 34 ,Skolfield has the decree at 444-445BC which is what the dispensationalists believe. Using solar years he comes to 32-33AD for the 69 weeks but he is not a dispensationalist believing the 70th week to be a 7 year tribulation. I'm in the middle of reading this book though so i'm not yet familiar enough to say much more.

From what I have seen, he uses one decree for the 69 weeks, but a different decree for the 70th week which he doesn't interpret as a 7 year period. He ends up having the 70th week starting BEFORE the 1st week.

I'm sure this won't be highlighted in his book!

Here are the quotes, one from the book 'The False Prophet' and one from his article about Daniel's 70th week.

Quoting from "The False prophet": "Almost 100 years after Gabriel spoke to Daniel, a special decree was granted by Artaxerxes I to Nehemiah (444-445BC). This is the ONLY decree recorded in the Bible that gave the Jews permission to "restore Jerusalem and rebuild its walls". The Messiah, Jesus, was crucified in 32 or 33AD. But are those 69 weeks 69 sevens of years? If so, then we have 69 x 7 or 483 Hebrew years. Using a multiplier of .9857 to adjust Hebrew years to solar years (our unit for historical record) yields: 483 x .9857 = 476 solar years. Artaxerxes' decree in 444BC + 476 years = 32AD, the cross right to the year!"

So, from this quote, we can see that he uses the decree of "Artaxerxes I to Nehemiah (444-445BC)" for the first 69 weeks.

From article on 70th week...From Cyrus. decree to return to the land in 536BC to new Israel in 1948AD is exactly 2484 solar years!
2. The exact middle of that time is 706AD, one year after
the completion of Islamic work on the temple mount! From the above, it appears that the Lord intended the 70th
week of Dan 9:27 to be an overview of the time that Gentiles
would control the Holy Land.

From this quote, we can see that he believes the 70th week actually began with Cyrus's decree in 536BC, about 90 years before the 1st week of Daniel's prophecy.
