How could it be that a people are scattered for nearly 2000 years and aganst impossible odds regain thier land and be set upon a world stage where almost every single day they are in the headlines! Such a small place of real estate upon which hangs the peace of the world? Coincidence or divine appointment ? Are we really that close to the coming of the Lord? Did Jeremiah prophecy of such things? Hmmmmmmmmmm. What an awesome God we serve.

As to the first question. Israel is still in rebellion and rebellious people will go to great extremes to have or get back what they once had.

The jews actually have'nt been in control of Israel since about 600BC and IMHO the belief that the reason they got this land back because of Zionism begs the question , why did zionism take 2,600 years to retake the land if that's the reason.
Now Iran is developing nuclear weapons and has repeatedly vowed to destroy Israel. Hamas is elected to power and has vowed to destroy Israel. The only relatively neutral power in the region is Jordon but they have an election in 07 and the "muslim brotherhood" is at 40% in the polls and they are a clone of Hamas. And if Jordon goes can any secular Arab govt last for long?
Is Rev all about Jerusalem 70AD? Jerusalem has always been the burdensome stone for one reason or another and is the target of hatred beyond human hatred IMO.
We are told not to base our view of eschatolgy on today's headlines but every view of Rev uses either today's headlines or headlines from 2,000 years ago or somewhere in between.

JD you know its getting bad when unbeleivers at work comment on Israel and middle east tension...and say something's going on there? Yet those who name the name of the Lord reject the Old Testament promises God made to His people and say the Church is the really Israel. But alas its an old arguement thats been beaten into the ground here before by both sides. I still beleive it must really trouble preterists to some degree or another that even thier attention is bieing forced to this people and thier land of Israel. Like it or not...the whole world,includeing the world view of preterists is being forced to contend with a people which time and history has failed to erase and God has placed in the center of it all.
