Hyper Preterism

Post by _schoel » Mon Dec 19, 2005 11:33 am

In the hyper-preterist understanding, is there a second coming of Christ?
If not, does history have an ending in that eschatological system?

Is the second coming of Christ one of the essentials of beliefs of Christianity? By denying it, would hyper-preterism be labeled a heresy?

hey schoel,

The one's I've talked to equate ALL passages that sound like the 2nd Coming and/or Resurrection as the 70AD judgment and/or spiritual resurrection. I don't believe there is an 'ending' to their eschatological system, but I may be wrong on that. I'd guess they would have some things in common with postmillennial thinkers.

The 2nd coming certainly is part of the Christian creeds (and most hyper-preterists view these creeds negatively for that reason), but the creeds don't define essential Christianity...God does.

I think it is fair to consider hyper-preterism a heresy. But I won't be surprised to see some hyper-preterists in heaven since we're not saved by doctrine. They, on the other hand, may be quite surprised to see me there and/or to be there themselves :)
