He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written,

a). that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,

b). and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem
What scriptures do you think Jesus was referring to?

Thanks in advance

Thanks.

A little more specific would be helpful.

I'm in the middle of writing what I hope will be an ebook on some verses that use the phrase "the name of Jesus." This is one of them.

This text connects the "scriptures he opened" to "repentance and forgiveness of sins." Connecting those dots would be helpful. And I really have no sense of bearings for Messianic passages in the old testament.

I've done a little research on this related to eschatology.

From what I've found, certain portions of the Hebrew Bible were called 'the writings' (i.e., 'the scriptures') some time during or before the first century.

The Eleven Books of the Writings in the Tanach
(Kesuvim or Ketuvim)
Psalms - Tehilim
Proverbs - Mishlei
Job - Iyov
Song of Songs - Shir HaShirim
Ruth - Rus
Lamentations - Eicha
Ecclesiastes - Koheles
Esther
Daniel - Doniel
Ezra/Nehemia
Chronicles - Divrei Hayamim

These may or may not be what Luke referenced. In other Gospels, it may well have been (such as when Jesus told the Sadducees 'You do not know the writings, nor the power of God'; noting that Sadducees only accepted the Torah: first five books of the then Jewish canon).

According to the Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament edited by G.K. Beale and D.A. Carson...

"The statement in 24:46, that Jesus' death fulfills Scripture, is supported by references to OT passages in other parts of the Gospel of Luke"
Ps. 118:22 (Luke 20:17)
Isaiah 53:12 (Luke 22:37)
Ps. 31:5 (Luke 23:46)
Ps. 22:7, 18; 69:21 (Luke 23:34-36)

Also in Luke's volume II (Acts)
Ps. 118:22 (Acts 4:11)
Ps. 2:1-2 (Acts 4:25-26)
Isaiah 53:7-8 (Acts 8:32-33)

On Resurrection
Ps. 16:8-11 (Acts 2:25-28, 13:35)
Isaiah 55:3 (Acts 13:34)

On Repentance and forgiveness preached to all nations
Isaiah 49:6

I didn't take the time to look up these verses. I'm just providing you the info found in that book since it seems to be a direct answer to your question.
