Luke 2

Post by _livingink » Thu Dec 21, 2006 11:09 pm

Luke 2:41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.......
Luke 2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. KJV

Is it reasonable to think that Jesus made at least a once yearly trip to Jerusalem and, if so, is it also reasonable to think that some of the doctors remained familiar with Jesus over the next 20 years of his life?

regards,

i think it is certainly possible, and it is also possible that they were intimidated (threatened) by him from day one. did any of these teachers of the law rush to his defense when he was arrested? it doesnt seem so.

Hello,

Jewish understanding of the Torah required every healthy male to make pilgrimage to the temple sanctuary three times a year (q.v., Deuteronomy 16:16). Presumably Jesus would have made these trips, insofar as he was able.

Shalom,
Emmet

Hello Emmet,

I just saw your reply and thank you for that information. I haven't really heard anyone address this aspect of Jesus' life--maybe it requires too much conjecture. Or maybe I'm not reading the correct books to research this.

kind regards,

livingink
